If you are on the fence about including this tour in your in your itinerary, this is your big blinking sign… don’t miss it! The tour we took with Max was our favorite thing we did our entire time in Italy and we visited Florence and Venice as well! It’s not for those with super delicate constitutions, but it’s not over the top. My 15 year old loved it and paid rapt attention. No one is claiming you’ll reach another plane of enlightenment from a guided tour, but Max is talented and engaging and includes the perfect number of participants for a lively but comfortable group. The material is a perfect blend of legend and forgotten, but shocking (true!) historical events. The walk covers enough ground to see a couple great neighborhoods, but it won’t wear you out, and Max makes sure everyone can hear what he’s saying, no headsets needed. Everyone sees the Colosseum when they visit Rome, and for good reason, but taking this tour really made the trip our own and not just a typical tourist checklist. It’s pay-what-you-want, but it was worth more than bigger budget options and we haven’t taken a better tour from Guruwalk (or elsewhere) so bring some cash because you will actually want to tip big for this one.

The type of tour you don’t want to miss. It takes you through that side of Rome that usually gets overlooked by tourists. Max is super professional, charismatic, well spoken, shares loads of interesting and useful information and besides all, he does it in a very enjoyable and captivating way. Truly recommend this tour!

We loved the tour, Max is an excellent guide with good stories and willing to give the information asked. The route is very nice, going around the Trastevere at night is always a good idea. We recommend it if you want to hear some entertaining stories.
