We begin at the beautiful Fontana delle Tartarughe, in the heart of Rome’s Jewish Ghetto. Home to one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world, this neighborhood tells a powerful story of persecution, resilience, tradition, and survival.

Walking through the Jewish Ghetto of Rome, we pass the ancient Portico d’Ottavia, once part of a monumental complex built by Emperor Augustus and later the fish market of the Ghetto. Just steps away stands the impressive Teatro di Marcello — an ancient Roman theater older than the Colosseum and, incredibly, still inhabited today.

We then cross the Tiber onto Tiber Island, associated with medicine and healing for over two thousand years, before entering Trastevere.

Across the river, Rome changes.

Cobblestone streets, medieval churches, ivy-covered façades, and lively piazzas give Trastevere its unmistakable character. We visit Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of Rome’s oldest churches, and discover the building traditionally associated with Raphael’s lover and muse, La Fornarina.
